Is this MY fun or YOUR fun? Diary #2

Movies, music, and quotes were all so much better back in the old days. Movies were original.
They were quotable. How many people today still quote movies from the 80s and 90s. New
ideas were flowing. Music was inspirational, loud, and able to create such a great vibe. In the
past on a nice day you would put the windows down and turn the radio all the way up. You
would be bumpin Biggie at a red light. The volume did not matter because you wanted everyone
to know what a great day you were having. The movies that you would watch were comedies or
documentaries. The speakers were so loud you can literally feel the planes or ships move
across the screen. It was all about the fun you were experiencing. Things will never be the
same.

Somewhere in that journey you decide to have kids and everything changes. Now when you put
the windows down on a nice day one kid complains that it is not windy enough. The other one
will let you know it is too windy. Instead of Biggie the music has turned to the Wheels on the bus
or Baby Shark. The volume of the music is lower than the people singing at the top of their
lungs. The movies went from Star Wars and Predator to Peppa Pig and Peter Pan. You are still
having fun but it is definitely a different kind now. You know longer care about just your fun. Your
fun comes directly from the fun that your children are experiencing. You do your best to make
sure that everyone involved is experiencing the same amount of fun but it never happens that
way. Now you take turns making sure everyone hears their favorite songs. See their favorite
movies. You want everyone to have the best experiences. Taking them to a ball game, going to
the beach, going to a carnival you want them to see all the fun you had growing up. Smiles,

laughter, and hugs are the easiest way for them to let you know every little thing is going to be
alright.

Your fun goes from selfish to selfless. You want to encourage them to do things that make their
heart happy and provide them with joy. You want to make sure they know all the classic movies
Sandlot, Mighty Ducks, The Great Outdoors, and Mary Poppins. They need to know all the
classic rock of the 80s Paradise City, Born to be Wild, Girls Just Want To Have Fun. You give
them these building blocks to help create a foundation for them to experience their own fun. You
want them to be knowledgeable about all the classics while still forming their own style. You are
able to take your fun and their fun and mesh it into new fun.
Wow what a ride it starts out being and then things change and you wouldn’t have it any other
way.
