Dad Diary #6 – Dear COVID…Thank You

Listen, COVID impacted everyone differently — and this post reflects how it changed my life entirely.  On December 13th 2020 — I became a Dad…and had NO IDEA how my World would never be the same.

I remember the months leading up to December…COVID locked down started around April — No one left their homes, schools became virtual, Zoom meetings became normal and everyone went CRAZY.

My wife and I would go on 2-3 walks a day…neighbors would come over to grill…I became interested in DIY projects and was called a “green thumb” for the first time. COVID basically slowed LIFE down — and there couldn’t have been a better time for it.

Then BOOM — my daughter came before Christmas and Parenthood started.

In it’s simplest form…COVID allowed time for me to learn how to be a Dad and husband. While working from home, I spent time watching Youtube videos, reading blogs and bumped into FatherCraft.com — we’re they help educate on the necessary facts and essentials of Dad Life.

The reason I thank COVID…is because I know My Dad, and all Dads before COVID — didn’t have the same opportunity to wake up with their kids, be able to help out at bath time, warm bottles, change diapers and play with them…My Dad, like others — woke up, was in the car by 7am and didn’t come home until 6pm. It’s sad, but he probably never enjoyed the small moments I get to experience with my daughter…that COVID helped provide.

Again, I know the seriousness and sadness COVID brought onto this world — but, that wasn’t how it impacted me or my home. It’s like watching a movie with a friend…afterwards, one of you thought it was the best…and the other wanted to walk out before it started.

Life is a journey…many roads lead to different destinations — I remain thankful for the ability to wake up, kiss my daughter, walk up stairs to my office, and be able to see her anytime I want…I just hope Dads all over continue to have this opportunity and take full advantage of it!
